DAVID CROUSE, PH.D.

Founder and President.  Dr. David Crouse is Professor and Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.  Dr. Crouse is also the Site Director at Clarkson University for the  NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Metamaterials (CfM) and he is a founder and owner of Phoebus Optoelectronics LLC.   Dr. Crouse has over 100 publications in engineered composite optical materials, has been an invited speaker at numerous international universities and photonics conferences, and has multiple patents in the field.  Dr. Crouse and his research laboratories perform extensive R&D collaborations with industry.  Dr. Crouse started Phoebus in 2004 to commercialize the optical and metamaterial innovations developed in his academic lab and to tailor the R&D to specialized commercial and government interests.  Before taking an academic faculty position, David was a Senior Process Engineer at Intel.  David received his BS in Honors Physics from Purdue University and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.  Dr. Crouse can be reached at dcrouse@phoebusopto.com.

IGOR BENDOYM

Lead Simulation Engineer.  Mr. Igor Bendoym has led many simulation projects for government contracts and private commercial projects for Phoebus, as well as many academic projects in photonic crystals, antennas, metamaterials and other optical materials.  Mr. Bendoym is the former Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board of the NSF Center for Metamaterials and advises the center on industry-relevant research in metamaterials.  Igor has expertise with several simulation software packages used to design and test optical designs.  Igor received his BS in Electrical Engineering from City College of New York.  Igor can be reached at ibendoym@phoebusopto.com.

LORI LEPAK, PH.D.

Lead Fabrication Engineer.  Dr. Lori Lepak brings a broad range of interdisciplinary research experience combining chemistry, materials science, and semiconductor fabrication to lead the fabrication work at Phoebus Optoelectronics.  Having earned her AB in Chemistry from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Cornell University, Dr. Lepak has over 10 years of combined fabrication experience at the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility at Cornell University and at the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne National Laboratory.  Before coming to Phoebus, Dr. Lepak's work at Cornell under Professor Michael Spencer involved the design and fabrication of devices incorporating biomolecules for filtration applications. During her post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Zach at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, she designed and fabricated diamond-based MEMS devices for the electrochemical synthesis of nanowires.  Dr. Lepak can be reached at llepak@phoebusopto.com.

NICOLE AVALLONE, PH.D., J.D.

Chief Operating Officer.  Dr. Nicole Avallone manages the business contracts and projects and oversees compliance with federal regulations.  Nicole received her J.D. from Cornell Law School and entered private practice at Latham & Watkins and Allen & Overy LLP in New York City.  In her practice as an attorney, Nicole’s work included regulatory compliance of large companies and litigation defense of both private and public entities.  Nicole also received a Ph.D. in languages from the University of Michigan.  Nicole can be reached at navallone@phoebusopto.com.
